It seems to have come into fashion to pretend as if the study of UAP is just beginning. Perhaps it’s all of us who are new to the study assuming the party didn’t start until we arrived. Yet, modern UFOology has been happening for well over a hundred years.

By the way, UFOology basically means trying to make something that is not repeatable, at least understandable by documenting it over and over. I find this is analogous to studying hurricanes.
You can study hurricanes by documenting everything about and around them, and then analyzing the patterns. Thus, allowing you to determine the source and precursors of hurricanes.
Sounds a lot like science to me…but you keep calling it UFO enthusiasm if you want…up urs sk
Anywho, the US government is acting like it just heard of UFOs too. Maybe they didn’t know that’s what we meant by UAP? So, we thought it would be good to do a quick recap of some of the US Government documents which they have publicly declassified making it very clear that this is not a new conversation.
- Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Documents: The CIA has declassified approximately 2,780 pages of documents detailing its findings on UFOs (now more commonly referred to as UAPs). These documents have been made available for public reading and download, with efforts led by The Black Vault which obtained these newly digitized documents through a series of FOIA requests. These documents span several decades and include a variety of reports and internal memos.
- Pentagon Analysis: The Pentagon, specifically through the Defense Department’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), has analyzed over 800 UFO sightings in the past three years. In the most recent report, covering the period from August 2022 to April 2023, 291 UAP sightings were analyzed. These reports have been systematically reviewed using a scientific framework and data-driven approach. The total of 801 sightings reviewed dates back to 1996.
- Other Declassified Documents: The CIA has released hundreds of additional documents, some dating back to the 1940s, under FOIA. This collection includes 243 different downloadable files on various UAP sightings and investigations. The ongoing efforts by individuals and organizations to obtain these documents through FOIA requests have gradually increased public access to government-held information on UAPs.
- Top Documents of Interest: The CIA has highlighted certain “X-Files” documents that would likely be of high interest to the public. These include reports of flying saucers over various countries, minutes of meetings on UFOs, and memoranda to the Director of Central Intelligence on the subject. Additionally, there are documents from the Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects and the Office of Scientific Intelligence’s Advisory Group on UFOs.
These documents offer a historical perspective on how the U.S. government, particularly the CIA, has approached and documented UFO sightings over several decades. They provide valuable information for researchers and the public interested in UAPs and their place in government investigations and public discourse.
It’s important to note that while these documents provide a wealth of information, they represent only a portion of the total government-held documents on UAPs. Ongoing efforts to declassify additional materials and the dynamic nature of UAP investigations mean that the number of documents and the information contained within them will continue to evolve.
From the Fortean Winds POV recognizing the existence of UAPs is a critical starting point for any analysis in this field. The focus then shifts to understanding the nature, origin, and characteristics of these phenomena. This involves:
- Detailed Analysis of Documented Cases: Examining specific instances where UAPs were observed, including the context, characteristics of the objects, witness accounts, and any available physical or electronic evidence.
- Exploring Possible Explanations: Investigating various hypotheses for UAPs, which may include atmospheric phenomena, advanced but unrecognized human-made technologies, optical illusions, and more.
- Interdisciplinary Research: Employing knowledge from fields like aerospace engineering, atmospheric science, physics, history, folklore and even psychology to understand the phenomena better.
- Government and Military Involvement: Assessing the significance of reports and studies conducted by military and government bodies, which can lend credibility to the study of UAPs and often provide high-quality data.
- Technological Assessment: Evaluating whether the observed characteristics of UAPs could be the result of technology that is either not publicly known or not yet fully understood.
- Scientific Inquiry and Openness: Maintaining a stance of scientific curiosity and openness, acknowledging what is known and unknown, and avoiding jumping to conclusions without sufficient evidence.
In sum, acknowledging the existence of UAPs is a foundational aspect of this field. The challenge lies in rigorous, scientific analysis and interpretation of these phenomena, adhering to empirical methods to explore their nature and origins. Those who would attempt to consistently return this conversation to whether or not UAP exist or their point of origin, are only attempting to push the reset button on the analysis.
Start that 100 year clock all over again…not bloody likely….
